TOUR de BARBADOS

Hiring a car to tour around the island is one of the "Must do" things when you visit Barbados.

We started from our hotel and went anti-clockwise around the coastline visiting as many places as possible during the day. Unfortunately the weather for the first hour or two was dreadful. We had a torrential downpour and as our car had no doors we had to shelter at Sam Lord's Castle until it had eased off a bit. Thankfully it cleared up and we had a great day.

The Bajan roads were pretty easy to get used to probably because they drive on the left like we do in England and we avoided getting too lost by staying near the coast most of the time. However, we made a mistake as we came down the west coast when we managed to hit Bridgetown at rush hour. Fortunately we managed to get through it but I'll make sure next time we go a slightly quicker and less traumatic route!

This is Liz in the car we hired to explore the island in. The location for the photo is on the rugged east coast of the island.

Perhaps the most spectacular place of the island was at North Point which is where the Animal Flower Cave is. Here the sea was really rough and it was pretty windswept. A complete contrast to the rest of Barbados but no less fantastic!

Sam Lord's Castle. We were thinking of having this as our wedding location until we got there. It's a pretty nice resort but it's too far away from all the nightlife, and we love our nightlife!

Spot the Iguana! This was taken at the Barbados Wildlife Reserve where there was a whole host of animals and birds to see. Unfortunately we could not find any monkeys, which we were particularly hoping to see, so the visit here wasn't as good as we expected it to be.
