BARBADOS 1998
We
visited Barbados in November 1998.
Liz and I had a fantastic time here. We did so much during the
day that we hardly had time to sunbathe!
We stayed at Rainbow Reef which was a pretty average hotel in
terms of activities (i.e. none!) plus the bar wasn't open after 6pm,
so basically it was only used for a place to sleep. It had a
decent pool and was right on the beach so that was good. The best
part of the hotel was that it was ideally situated for the
restaurants and nightlife being next to St Lawrence Gap.
We went to Barbados with the intention of not only having a
holiday but checking out potential locations for our wedding in
early 2000 and we are pleased to say we found that location, the
Casuarina and it is absolutely perfect. We actually went there on
our first day there as our friends Janet and Jim were staying
there and we met up with them and were able to look around. It
had everything, it was almost like an all-inclusive in terms of
activities despite being self-catering, but this made it even
more ideal as we did not want an all-in as Barbados has so much
to offer in terms of nightlife and things to do.
During our stay we toured the island in a hire car, went on the
Jolly Roger, got filmed by the BBC, I won a limbo competition at
the Plantation night, and more importantly I proposed to Liz at
Harbour Lights. We were already going to get married anyway but
had decided that we would skip the engagement, but I felt that as
she is to be my wife she should not go without so I went down on
one knee in front of hundreds of people (a few drinks did help me
pluck up the courage I might add!) Well she said yes and the
following day we went to Bridgetown and she chose a ring from
Colombian Emeralds International so it's official, we are now
engaged and couldn't be happier.
Back to the holiday, what a superb place Barbados is, I had been
before and had done nothing but rave about it since, but even I
was apprehensive about returning. Was it really that good? Well
it was and more to the point it was even better than I remembered
it. If you haven't been but fancy the Caribbean choose Barbados
because there is nowhere better. The whole place is clean and
well organised, it's safe to go out at night, the locals are
friendly (although single women may find that out more than
others!), the nightlife is great, the music is great, the beaches
are great, absolutely everything is great. I can't think of a
single thing that wasn't at least as good as anywhere else I've
been.
Enough talk, check out the pics....
